Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course – 8 weeks
Awareness session: Tuesday, February 28th, 3:00-4:00pm, EME 4116
Tentative Schedule for 8 week course: April/May 2017 (specific dates to be determined)
Attendance is optional

Because UBC has encouraged employee health and wellness to be an essential part of our work culture, we would like to offer an opportunity to add another stress reduction tool to your stress relief toolkit! We recognize that this tool might not be for everyone and not everyone will be interested.

We are scheduling an awareness session in the upcoming weeks. Dr. Janice Snyder will lead the awareness session that will provide a hands-on experience on what the course will be like. She will also outline what the time commitment is to practice.

We encourage you to attend in order to experience this tool first-hand, which will allow you to make an informed decision on whether you would like to commit to the 8-week course.  However, this is not mandatory and attendance is optional.

Facilitator: Dr. Janice Snyder, Unit 4 Psychology, IKBSAS
Course Description: Mindfulness is a practical, hands-on tool recognized as being an affective means of promoting positive cognitive behavior and dealing with stress. It encourages us to change patterns of behavior and our response to situations. Benefits are felt immediately – relaxation, focussing the mind, being aware of what you are feeling in the moment which can redirect your thoughts towards a better outcome of a situation. Being present and aware of each moment also helps direct how effective you are at responding to conflict, being resilient, and being the best self you can be in the moment.
Course includes: Instructor led sessions, textbook, guided meditations CD, Drop Box for sharing resources, invitation to future mindfulness retreat.

Please register to participate in the awareness session.
