Subgrants and Research Fund Transfers

Subgrants

When issuing or receiving a subgrant, it is crucial to consider the Sponsor’s or funding program’s financial reporting requirements to ensure subgrant revenues and expenses are properly captured and reported on time.

  • Issuing a Subgrant: Principal Investigators (PIs) must ensure that the intended subgrantee is eligible to receive the subgrant. Requests to issue a subgrant are processed by the Office of Research Services (ORS).
  • Receiving a Subgrant: The Office of Research Services also supports PIs who receive a subgrant, assisting with the proper management and reporting of the funds.

Transferring Research Funds

  • Transferring a Tri-Agency Research Account to UBC: The transfer of a grant to a new institution must be initiated by the institution that is currently administering the account.
  • Transferring a Tri-Agency Research Account from UBC: The transfer of a SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR, or NFRF grant to a new institution must be initiated by the institution currently administering it. Researchers are required to follow the internal procedures of the receiving institution.
